The 34 recognised symptoms of menopause

It is widely acknowledged that there are 34 different symptoms, both physical and psychological.

Why are the symptoms associated with menopause so diverse?

Women have estrogen receptors in every cell in their body, thus not only does estrogen play a significant role in overall sexual and reproductive health, but it also helps regulate processes within the skeletal, cardiovascular, and central nervous systems. Estrogen can impact upon cholesterol levels and insulin (blood sugar) sensitivity, bone density and muscle mass, blood flow and circulation and cognitive function. So, it’s not surprising that as estrogen levels fluctuate significantly throughout the course of the day during the perimenopause, that there is the potential for such wide-ranging symptoms to affect women during this time.
